How We Get Sick:
The Causes of Illness According to Traditional Chinese Medicine
October 24, 2012 5:30-7pm

With Amanda Lewis, L.Ac.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) emphasizes balance as the key to good health. For example, it’s important to have balance between rest and activity, a balanced diet, and balance in temperature. Extremes in any aspect of life can become a cause of disease over time. Balance is relative to the individual; what is too much for one person may not be enough for another.

To determine a treatment plan in TCM, we look for what are called “patterns of disharmony.” To restore harmony, it’s essential to understand the primary cause of the imbalance.

In the class, Amanda Lewis, L.Ac, will cover the 3 causes of illness:

1. Internal Causes (emotions)
2. External Causes (climate factors)
3. Other Causes (everything else, including diet, sleep, trauma, etc)

At the end of the class, Amanda will lead a tour through Greenstar, highlighting the various foods and supplements mentioned in the class.

In Chinese Medicine, the kidneys are considered the foundation of the body, the root of all “yin” and “yang” aspects. How vibrant we feel has a lot to do with the strength of our kidneys, as they govern growth, development, reproduction, sexual health, and our ability to handle to stress.

In January’s class, we will talk about how acupuncture, diet, and the use of certain herbal remedies and supplements can be used to address these basic aspects of health that the kidneys regulate:

- Growth & Development of the Mind & Body
- Energy, Warmth, & Sexual Vitality
- Urinary & Reproductive Health

At the end of the class, we'll take a tour through Greenstar, highlighting the various foods and supplements mentioned in the class.
